Nitro Day Shelter License Revoked (WSAZ NewsChannel 3 West Virginia): “The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has revoked the license the West Sattes Day Treatment Center.

It serves about 50 mentally handicapped and developmentally disabled adults.

An investigation began after a 22 year old patient, who was unable to chew solid foods, died after choking on a hot dog.

According to the Charleston Gazette, the DHHR cited the parent company, Deaf Education and Advocacy Focus based in South Charleston, March 1st for numerous health and safety issues.

The company’s Nitro and Boone County shelters have been given 30 days to find other services for its patients.

Both remain open pending an appeal.”
