Sorenson Legacy Foundation Gives Additional $1 Million to Gallaudet University for James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center
WASHINGTON & SALT LAKE CITY-(Business Wire)-April 5, 2007 – Yesterday at the groundbreaking for Gallaudet University’s James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center, James Lee Sorenson announced the Sorenson Legacy Foundation has donated an additional $1 million to the university to help complete its new academic research facility. This additional contribution brings to $4 million the total amount the foundation has contributed to Gallaudet University to develop a center devoted to deaf people’s language, culture, history and community.
Gallaudet University, the world’s premier institution for higher education of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, launched a $28 million campaign in January 2004 to construct the language and communication center, now named after James Lee Sorenson. Sorenson is a nationally recognized business leader and entrepreneur who helped develop several new industry categories in today’s business world and is the founder of Sorenson Communications, one of the leading providers of communication services for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
