Bringing school children Easter joy in Marion
Friday, April 6, 2007
Thursday marked the 23rd year that the Easter Bunny has visited Marion’s School for the Hearing Impaired. And the person behind the ears, so to speak, that entire time has been Denise Rutherford.
Rutherford’s stop at the school is an annual event. As usual, this year’s visit brought smiles to all the faces of the children, whether it was through the tricks she does with her hoola-hoop, her juggling, the bags of candy she hands out to each child or the “bunny hop” conga-line she leads.
Her visit was a prequel to the school’s day-long Easter activities. Because Thursday was the last day before the school’s four-day weekend, students had the opportunity to play games, make arts and crafts, watch a movie, eat candy or hunt for eggs.
The event was sponsored by the Carbondale Elks Lodge 1243.
