Principal

Principal- Sequoia School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Deaf Education or equivalent.
  • Arizona Teacher Certification for Hearing Impaired, or equivalent, or able to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Five (5) years of successful experience in the field of Deaf Education as a teacher or administrator.
  • Excellent receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language.
  • Supports the Bi-lingual/Bi-Cultural approach to the teaching of D/deaf and hard of hearing children.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience.
  • Principal certification or equivalent.
    Duties:

The Principal is the primary academic administrator at the school. Successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Facilitate the development of and communicate the objectives of the school to students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the learning experience for students.
  • Administer the scheduling of and assignment of students to classes in accordance with the Individual Education Plans (IEP) in effort to fully utilize the special skills and abilities of staff for the benefit of student’s education.
  • Confer with parents, be knowledgeable of and oversee the development, implementation and compliance of Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Provide a positive, safe and orderly school climate.
  • Coordinate with other Principals on the same campus to ensure the care and safekeeping of school buildings, grounds and all equipment therein.
  • Supervise maintenance of student records; supervise and review the preparation of student reports.
  • Maintain professional competence and growth through participation in educational activities and through organizational memberships, publications, conferences, courses, etc…
  • Design and implement professional growth activities for staff.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Superintendents of SSDHH and Sequoia Charter Schools.

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with education and experience. 210 day appointment. Comprehensive benefit package provided.
